Hornet baseball falls to Towanda.
 

The Wellsboro Varsity baseball team dropped a close game to Towanda, 6-4 Friday night in Wellsboro.

Neither Towanda or Wellsboro got much offense going until the third inning when the Black Knights got on the board when Mitch Patel reached second on a double. After moving to third he scored on a fielder's choice by Jared Lines. Wellsboro would respond in the fourth inning to tie up the game at 1-1.

The score remained tied until until Towanda exploded in the last three innings to score 5 runs. The Hornets mounted a charge in the 6th inning with 2 runs and added 1 more in the 7th, but Towanda held on for the NTL cross over win.

Senior Matt Reese, Junior Dylan Prough, Senior Connor Coolidge, Junior Brian Doty, and Senior Ben Shaw all had hits for the Hornets, with Shaw's coming off a solo home run. Reese and Prough each had 1 RBI, while Shaw scored two runs. Junior Cody DeHaas and Senior Dan Saniga scored the other two runs on the night.

Reese started the game on the mound for the Hornets, pitching 5 innings and giving up 2 runs (1 earned), 3 hits, a 2 walks. Reese also struck out 4 batters before being relieved by Saniga, who went 1 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs. Junior Brandon Owlett closed out the final 2/3 inning.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 5-2 (2-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Saturday, April 27 as they travel to Cowanesque Valley.
