Hornets pound Wyalusing in District IV opener.
 

The Wellsboro Varsity baseball team scored 12 runs to drop Wyalusing in the first round of District IV Class AA playoffs Tuesday night.

The Hornets scored first, driving in 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take the lead, and went on to score 9 runs in the 6th to solidify the victory.

"I'm pleased we were hitting the ball real well," head coach Philip Prough said. "I'm happy with the fact that we collected 13 hits, including seven in a row in that last inning."

Senior Matt Reese went 3-3 at the plate to lead the Hornets, and pitched 3 scoreless innings to record the win. Junior Brian Doty was 2-4 with a solo home run, Freshman Dawson Prough went 2-4 with a run, and Junior Dylan Prough went 2-4.

The Hornets will now travel to Montoursville on Friday, May 24 for the 2nd round of playoffs. The Hornets recently faced the Warriors in the championship game of the Giles Tournament last Saturday, dropping a close game, 11-10.

With the win, the Hornets improve their 2013 season record to 15-4 (6-2 NTL West).
