Hornet baseball shuts out Towanda, 1-0.

Sophomore Joe Allen and Senior Brandon Owlett combined for a 1 hit shut out against Towanda on Monday, April 14.

Allen pitched 5 and 1/3 innings allowing one hit and walking two batters to pick up his second win of the year. Owlett pitched the remaining 1 2/3 inning and recorded his second save of the year.

Offensively, Sophomore Dawson Prough led the Hornets going 2-for-3 with a double at the plate and scored the lone run of the game. Junior Brett Kendrick went 1-for-3 with the only RBI of the game. Senior Dylan Prough also 1-for-3 at the plate.

Defensively, the Hornets excelled behind the pitching of Allen. All five infielders recorded assists including a critical pick off by Sophomore catcher Nick Tremper to Senior Brian Doty when a Towanda batter failed at their bunt attempt. In doing so, the newly substituted pinch runner drifted too far off first base and Tremper threw a strike to first baseman Doty who applied the sweep tag ending any momentum Towanda had.

"Our pitching was excellent tonight," said head coach Philip Prough. "Joe wasn't afraid to pitch to contact. Our defense is solid and we have good range so we're able to make plays behind any of our pitchers. That was evident tonight.

"Offensively, our approaches at the plate have been improving too. We're seeing the results of the boy's hard work in the cage."

With the win the Hornets improve to 3-1 (1-0 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 16 as they travel to Mansfield.
