Hornet baseball tops Williamson, 14-12.
 

The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team beat Williamson 14-12 in their final home game of the year on Wednesday, May 13.

The Hornets only managed five hits on the night, but drew 13 walks to reach base.

Williamson scored the games' first three runs in the top of the first inning but Wellsboro answered right back in the bottom half. The Hornets then added two more runs in the second inning to take a 5-3 lead. After a scoreless third inning Williamson scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead 7-5.

Wellsboro broke the game open in the fourth inning as they exploded for eight runs to go up 13-7. Williamson would close the gap to 13-11 as they scored four runs in the fifth inning. Wellsboro would add a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and Williamson added their final run in the top of the seventh, but Wellsboro was able to hang on for the win.

Junior Joe Allen was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Hornets. Senior Brett Kendrick was 1-for-3, Freshman Dalton Prough was 1-for-3, and Freshman Johnny Rowland was 1-for-1.

Dalton Prough scored four runs on the night and Junior Dawson Prough, Rowland, and Kendrick each scored two runs. Junior Sam Moss, Allen, Senior Nick Levindoski, and Freshman Caleb Tennis also added runs. Levindoski had four RBIs and Allen, Dawson Prough, and Kendrick had two RBIs. Junior Nick Tremper, Rowland, and Moss added the other RBIs.

Allen started on the mound and earned the win. In five innings of work he allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits. He also walked five batters and struck out five batters on 108 pitches. Junior James Mundy came on for the final two innings to collect the save, allowing one run on four hits.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 12-7. The team will be back in action on Friday, May 15 as they travel to South Williamsport.
