JV baseball spilts double header with Canton.
 

The Wellsboro JV Baseball team split a header with Canton on Saturday, May 9.

In game one, Wellsboro jumped to an early 2-0 lead as Freshman Brent English drove in Freshmen Dalton Prough and Johnny Rowland. Prough would start on the mound for the Hornets, giving up two runs in two innings of work.

Wellsboro would take the lead again in the third, as Rowland was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Rowland, English and Freshman Brandon Plume would be driven in by Freshman Parker Mann, Plume and Freshman Kody Rice leaving the Hornets up 5-2 after the third.

The Hornets would take the lead into the bottom of the fourth before giving up four unearned runs off of two costly Hornet errors. The Hornets would lose the game 6-5.

Prough and English were offensive leaders, contributing two hits a piece. Rowland, Plume, and Rice also had hits for the Hornets.

In the second game of the double header, the Hornets would play the role of spoiler, as they capitalized on a late rally to win the game. Wellsboro again scored in the top of the first inning as Prough worked his way on through a walk and was eventually driven in by Freshman Alex Kozuhowski. Rowland would work the first inning on the mound giving up two runs.

In the top of the second, Man and Plume scored on a sacrifice by Trent Darrow and a hit by Nolan Lohr. Wellsboro would give up a couple more runs and were down 6-4 heading into their final at bats.

In the final frame for Wellsboro, they plated 7 runs on hits by Rowland, Kozuhowski, Mann and Rice. Kozuhowski would end the game on the mound giving Wellsboro an 11-6 victory.

Kozuhowski threw four innings, giving up four runs, two earned, while striking out two Canton batters. The Hornet offense was led by Kozuhowski, Mann and Lohr, all contributing two hits a piece. Rowland and Rice had hits for Wellsboro as well.

The Hornets improve to 2-6 on the year and will host Towanda on Saturday, May 16 in their final games of the season.
