Hornets drop season opener to Sayre.
 

The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team dropped their season opening game 6-5 to Sayre on Tuesday, March 29.

Sayre started hot with five consecutive hits in the first inning to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. Wellsboro settled down defensively and only allowed one run in the second. The Hornets rallied with a run each in the fifth and sixth innings, and three in the seventh but could not complete the comeback.

Sophomore Dalton Prough went 2-for-4 with 1 run at the plate, sophomore Johnny Rowland was 1-for-4, and sophomore Caleb Tennis was 1-for-3. Senior Dawson Prough scored 2 runs while being walked 3 times. Freshmen Cam Tennis and Taynton Repard scored the other runs.

Senior James Mundy started on the mound for the Hornets and earned the loss. Senior Sam Moss pitched three innings in relief.

The Hornets start the 2016 season 0-1. The team will be back in action on Monday, April 4 as they host Northeast Bradford.
