Big 4th Inning Leads Troy Past Wellsboro.

A 5-run 4th inning by Troy led them to an 8-6 win over Wellsboro in the rain on Tuesday, May 2.

The Trojans took an early lead with one run in the top of the 1st, however the Hornets answered with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Conner Adams led off with a double and later scored. Fellow senior Cameron Brought singled and later scored to put the Hornets up, 2-1. Troy retook the lead in the top of the 3rd with two runs then later added 5 runs in the 4th to pull ahead, 8-2.

Troy held the 8-2 lead until the 6th when the Hornet offense woke back up.

Brought led off the inning with a double, freshman Drayden McGee singled, and sophomore Lucas Cuneo drew a walk, all three would score to cut the Trojans' lead down to 8-5. Wellsboro got one more run back in the 7th as junior Caden Smith led off with a double, then later scored on a double by freshman Marek Mascho. The Hornets, however, could not complete the comeback, suffering the two-run loss, and ending a two-game win streak.

Brought led Wellsboro at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and scoring 2 runs. Mascho finished 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs. Adams, McGee, sophomore Alec Magli, and sophomore Gabe Sprouse were all 1-for-3 with Adams hitting a double and Sprouse driving in two runs.

Mascho was credited with the loss, allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits with a walk and a strikeout. Senior Blake Hamblin came on in relief for 3 and two thirds of an inning, allowing 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.

The loss drops the Hornets to 7-6 (6-4 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Friday at home against North Penn-Mansfield.
