Griffins take two, qualify for districts.

2012 Sullivan County vs. Bucktail BaseballThe Sullivan County Griffins swept a doubleheader from Bucktail on Saturday, winning 5-3 and 7-2 to clinch a spot in districts for the first time since 1999.

"We have struggled the last few weeks because we have a couple of boys that our starters that are missing," Sullivan County coach Walt Tubach said. "And, our subs have really stepped up and taken control and we've won the last three games we've played. We have two more and we'd love to finish the season 12-8. It's just a great group of boys.

"It's my seventh year at the high school level and I can't even describe the feeling to be in this position. To have the support of the parents and the players, it's a group effort, there's nothing else you can say about it. We had a great group this year to work with."

In the first game the Griffins scored four runs in the seventh to rally from a 3-1 deficit to prevail 5-3.

Zach Meyer threw the complete game, striking out nine and walking one, while allowing four hits and three runs, two earned.

Barry Heinrich had a hit and Lucas Hatton scored a run. Kelby Mullen had two hits, two RBI and a double and Tom Blasi had a double, while Forrest Jordan had two hits, with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Jake Gavitt had a hit, an RBI and a run scored and Tim Kramer scored a run.

In the second game Sullivan County had a four-run sixth inning to blow open a 3-2 game.

Heinrich was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Hatton scored a run. Mullen had a hit, a run scored and an RBI and Meyer had two hits, a run scored and three RBI.

Connor Wylie had a hit and an RBI and Tristan Weikel had a hit, while Jordan scored two runs and Gavitt had a hit and scored a run. Kramer had a hit and an RBI.

Mullen struck out eight, walked two and allowed one hit and two runs, one earned, in six innings. Meyer threw one perfect inning of relief, striking out two.

Canton 11, NEB 1, 6 innings

CANTON - Garrett Wesneski was 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Chase Pepper was 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

Ryan Ball had three hits, with a double and a run scored and Scott Rockwell had a double and he scored a run, while Wes Moore had a hit and scored a run and Derek Wilcox, Tanner Machmer and Ben Pepper all had hits.

Emmett Watson scored two runs in the game.

Wesneski started on the mound for Canton.

The Panthers got a hit and a run scored from Brett Goodwin and Jesse Stroud had a hit and an RBI, while Ben Abell and Todd Bonin each had hits in the game.

Stroud started on the mound for the Panthers.

Wyalusing 10, Williamson 6

The Rams got three runs in the second and five in the fourth on their way to the victory on Saturday.

Joey Champluvier hit a two-run home run to spark the fourth inning and Kye Novak and Cody Pickett each had two hit days.

Novak had three RBI and he scored a run, while Pickett had an RBI and scored two runs.

Logan Hitchcock and Chad Johnson each had doubles, with Johnson getting an RBI.

Andrew Pickett scored a run and Domenic Ciccolini had a hit and a run scored and Kyle Tinna scored a run.

Dylan Otis had a hit and scored two runs and Jordan Salsman scored a run.

Suede Reed worked 4 1/3 innings, striking out one, walking none and allowing three hits and four runs, two earned. Champluvier worked 2 2/3 innings, striking out one, walking two and allowing four hits and two runs, one earned.

Wade Tubbs and Hunter Huyett pitched for Williamson, striking out none and walking five between them,

Kyle Colegrove scored a run and had two RBI and Huyett had two hits, with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Josh Dilly had a hit and Dylan Confer had two hits and an RBI.

Tubbs scored a run and Billy Barnes had two hits and scored a run, while Troy Adrience had an RBI.

Tioga 7, Spencer Van-Etten 6, 10 innings

The Tigers fell behind 4-1, but tied the game with three in the sixth.

In the 10th inning they again fell behind after Spencer got two runs, but Tioga scored three in the bottom of the seventh to win it.

"We gave up two runs there in the 10th, but they battled back and never gave up and got three runs there," Tioga coach Bob Seymour said.

"Down 4-1 wed tied it in the bottom of the sixth and we were really confident because we had the top of the order there in the seventh, but we just couldn't do anything. Peter Simmons pitched another great game for us. Ryan Vergason was throwing good, he just turned his ankle there on a hit and Peter said he was good. I thought he'd go a couple of innings for us, I didn't realize he'd go almost another complete game."

Vergason worked five innings, striking out five, walking one and allowing six hits and four runs, just one earned, while Simmons struck out seven, walked one and allowed two hits and two earned runs in five innings.

Eric Zwirlein had two hits, including the game-winning single that drove in Dakota Skinner in the 10th. He also had a double in the game.

Cody Bennett had a hit and an RBI, Vergason had two hits and Jake Howland had a hit. Dkinner had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored and Zack Baker had two hits and two RBI.

Jesse Tillotson started for Spencer and Tim Roache pitched 7 1/3 innings of relief, striking out eight, walking three and allowing five hits and six runs, four earned.

Tillotson had a two-RBI single in the 10th for Spencer and Tyler Allenson and Jordan Tyson each had two hits with a double.

Tioga hosts Notre Dame on Monday.
