Nate Williams: 2011-12 Towanda Daily Review Male Newcomer of the YearComing into this season, Sayre's Nate Williams knew there would be some expectations.

Despite being a freshman, Williams had shown off his exceptional talent up through the different age groups but going up against kids three, four years older than him things could be different.

"I just kind of tried working my way through it," Williams explained. "Just do what I love."

The Redskin was able to shake off the age gap, though, and showed why locals felt he would be able to compete immediately at the varsity level.

"I was pretty excited," Williams said about starting the year. "I trained hard and it felt really good to play some varsity this year, that was one of my main goals."

He was the All-Region Rookie of the Year in soccer and basketball while also making Second Team in baseball.

"It was probably a very good year," Williams remarked. "I enjoyed it a lot."

He also had the help of his big brother, Tyler.

"My brother was real supportive all year in all my sports," Williams said. "It was fun, he's always been there for me. He was a pretty good big brother; it was real great having him with me."

Williams chose to pick soccer back up after having not played since fourth grade.

"It was different," he explained. "I hadn't played it in a while. The guys were great about helping me along and the transition."

In the winter, he got to do his main love basketball where he led Sayre in scoring and was their main outside threat.

"It was fun, I enjoyed it," Williams said. "I like doing that kind of stuff."

For baseball, the freshman batted at the top of the order, something that took a little getting used to.

"It was interesting," he said. "It was a little bit nerve racking being right up at the beginning, being the first person to get a look at the pitcher."

Williams came in just as Redskin stand out Taylor Skerpon had graduated and he helped fill the void in those sports.

"It's an honor," Williams said about following Skerpon. "He did leave some pretty big holes in all the sports, it's kind of tough."

Now with the first season under his belt Williams has high expectations for the future.

"Hopefully, I'll have more success in the coming year."
