Trojans rally to take NTL West lead.

2012 Troy vs. Mansfield BaseballEAST TROY - Down 7-4 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Troy Trojans scored seven times in the inning to pick up an 11-7 victory over Mansfield.

The victory, coupled with Wellsboro's loss to Williamson, leaves the Trojans alone atop the NTL West standings at 4-0.

Lucas Havens had a hit and scored a run for Troy and Justin Fitzwater, Delbert Lewis and Brandon Mattocks all scored runs.

Josh Mattocks had a double, and a run scored and Landis Zimmerman had two hits with two runs scored, while Chad Vermilya and Trevor Hodget each scored runs and Jarod Mattocks scored two runs in the game.

Mansfield's pitchers walked seven and hit three batters in the game.

Mansfield got a three hit day from Skye Stiner, with three runs scored and a stolen base and Derek Burd had two hits and Matt DeLosa had a hit.

Max Colegrove, Sam Rotella and Taylor Hillson scored runs in the game.

Rotella started and Bryce Zaparzynski finished the game for Mansfield and Cody Wolfe, Havens and Lewis all pitched for Troy in the game.

Canton 7, Sayre 6

After a three-run sixth inning by Sayre put the Redskins up 6-5, the Warriors got runs in the bottom of both the sixth and seventh innings to pick up the victory.

In the seventh Ryan Ball reached on an error and Tim Bassett came in to pinch run. He stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Sayre then intentionally walked Derek Wilcox and Connor Route to load the bases and Ben Pepper hit a game-winning RBI single to center.

"They are all important," Canton coach Bob Rockwell said of the league games this year. "Our boys showed some heart and came back and got the run when we needed it."

Canton got three hits, a run scored and an RBI from Scott Rockwell and Emmett Watson had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Chase Pepper had a hit and a run scored, Garrett Wesneski had a hit and scored a run and Ball scored a run.

Tyler Route had a hit and Ben Pepper had two hits, a run scored and the game winning RBI.

Wilcox started, he worked two innings and struck out one, with one walk and one hit by pitch, allowing two runs.

Ben Pepper worked five innings in relief, striking out eight and allowing three walks and four runs, just one earned.

"Ben was clutch tonight, have gave us the innings we had to have," Rockwell said. "We had one injury we didn't plan on and Ben came in and gave us some big innings."

Sayre got a hit and two runs scored from Cody Kettner and Nate Williams scored a pair of runs.

Nick Skerpon had two hits and a run scored and Alex Lyons had a double and three RBI.

Joe Kozemko had two hits and a run scored and Brad Felt and Dave Mendola each scored runs. Jared Donovan went the distance on the mound for Canton, striking out four and walking four.

Towanda 9, Wyalusing 0

WYSOX - The Black Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on Monday and Austin Markel limited the Rams to just two hits in the victory.

In the opening inning Casey Huff led off with a single to left. The ball got past the left fielder moving Huff to third and he scored on a wild pitch.

"Just two pitches in and we were up 1-0, that was a great start," Towanda coach Bill Sexton said.

Brandon Dinelli then drew a walk and Zack Ripic and Mason Roof followed with back-to-back RBI doubles. Roof scored on an error off the bat of Markel.

"We came out hitting the ball," Sexton said. "Hit, walk, hit, hit. They had some errors which helped, but even without the errors we probably go up 3-0. It was a really good start.

"Anytime you go down there and jump out and score early it gives you a good feeling. I'm pretty pleased with the way the kids kept tacking runs on. We certainly had opportunities and in most cases we capitalized on them."

Markel went the distance on the mound to improve to 3-0. He struck out five and walked four in the game.

"I am pretty pleased with Austin," Sexton said. "He had a pretty dominating night tonight. He only threw 74 pitches. He had a lot of first pitch outs. Four different times he got a batter out on one pitch. The two hits on him were a bloop single and a hard hit ball by (Cody) Pickett in the sixth up the middle.

"Besides that, he was never really in trouble. He walked two in the second, but he had a punch out to end that. Our defense also helped, we turned double plays in the sixth and seventh innings."

Huff had two hits, scored two runs, had an RBI and a stolen base for Towanda and Dinelli had a hit, a stolen base and he scored three runs.

Ripic had two hits, two RBI, two runs scored and a double and Roof had a pair of hits, with a double, a stolen base, two RBI and a run scored.

Nick Place had an RBI and Sawyer Strope scored a run in the game.

Pickett had both hits for Wyalusing in the game.

Mitchell Pickett started for Wyalusing, striking out one, walking two and allowing five hits and six runs, two earned. Logan Hitchcock worked two innings for the Rams, striking out none, walking none and allowing two hits and two runs, one earned. Joe Champluvier struck out two, walked one and allowed one hit and one run, not earned, in three innings of work.

The Black Knights remain undefeated in NTL East play and they travel to Sayre on Wednesday to take on the Redskins.

Williamson 9, Wellsboro 7

Williamson scored three in the first and three in the fourth on their way to the win.

Hunter Huyett, Matt Gee and Drew Fish all had two hits for Williamson. Pat Parsons had three hits for Wellsboro in the game.

Brandon Grinnell and Matt Reese pitched for Wellsboro and Trevor Adriance, Jordan Confer and Josh Dilly pitched for Williamson. Confer got the win and Grinnell took the loss.

Williamson is 3-2 and they host Galeton on Wednesday.
