Troy outlasts Sayre in marathon game.

n a game that took five and a half hours over two days it was Troy outlasting Sayre 22-21 in eight innings during NTL East baseball action.

Troy started the scoring with Landis Zimmerman scoring a run in the top of the first inning, followed by Sayre's Cody Ketter and Kyle Lake scoring in the bottom of the inning. Sayre added three runs in the bottom of the second and one more in the bottom of the third to lead the game 6-1 going into the fourth.

In the top of the fourth Troy scored two runs on a base hit from Bradin Heimbach, while Sayre answered in the bottom of the fourth with a two run double by David Mendola.

In the bottom of the fifth Sayre added three runs to lead 11-3 going into the sixth inning.

Troy's bats woke up after that.

On nine base hits and a triple by Josh Mattocks Troy scored 15 runs to take the laed 18-11 but Sayre was not done. Felt lead off the bottom of sixth with a triple, and five walks later with a two run base hit Sayre tied the game 18-18 with two outs and runner on second.

Trey Murray was able to get a strikeout to end the inning.

At that point game was suspended due to darkness and when play resumed on Saturday afternoon Troy was at the bat. Sayre's Michael Rogers came on to pitch recorded two strikeouts and a pop out. In the bottom of the inning Sayre's first batter was hit by a pitch. At that time Jarod Mattocks came in to pitch for Troy. After a sacrifice bunt out and an intentional walk Sayre had runners first and second with one out as Cuyler Kochin came to the plate. Two pitches later troy turned a double play and ended the seventh.

In the top of the eighth Jarod Mattocks walked followed by Zimmerman singling to put two runners on. A bunt single from Josh Mattocks ended with two runs scored followed by a Kyle Schucker hit scoring Josh Mattocks to give Troy a 3-run lead.

In the bottom of the eighth Mendola led off with a base hit followed by a walk to Nick Hall. Jarod Mattocks was able to get a strikeout but then Felt and Wheeler had back to back base hits to make it 21-20 with runners on first and second. Jarod Mattocks persevered, though, getting a strikeout and pop fly to end the game and pick up his first varsity win.

For Troy at the plate Zimmerman had three hits and four runs scored, Josh Mattocks had a triple and single with 6-RBI and three runs scored, Darton Harwick had two hits and two runs scored, Heimbach had two hits, two runs scored and 4-RBI, Scotty Reece had 2 hits and 2 runs scored,chance lantz had 2 hits and 2 runs scored,kyle schucker had 2 hits and 2 runs scored, kyle Jackson had a hit and scored and Jarod Mattocks had two runs.

For Sayre Felt was 4-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, Mendola had a double and single with a run scored, Wheeler had two hits and two runs scored, Nick Skerpon had two hits and two runs scored, Ketter had two hits and four runs scored, Lake had a hit and five runs scored while Kochin, Hall and JP Harbst all had runs scored. Rogers gets the loss on the mound.

Troy will host Athens today.
