2014 Towanda vs. Sayre BaseballA Kyle Landis' RBI single gave Canton a 3-2 win over Wyalusing during NTL baseball action Monday.

Canton jumped up first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Wyalusing came back with two runs in the top of the fifth to go up 2-1 but in the bottom half of the inning Canton reclaimed the lead and held on for the win.

Tanner Machmer was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Warriors while Tyler Cole had a triple with a run scored, Chase Pepper had an RBI double and Trevor Route added a single.

Pepper and Travis Butcher also scored for the Warriors.

John Bowman started and went 4 1/3-innings with two runs and eight strikeouts. Pepper finished out and earned the win, striking out three.

Isaac Bennett, Cody Pickett, Collin Edsell and Patrick Salsman had the four Ram hits while Bennett had an RBI. Edsell and Hunter Brewer scored the runs.

Cody Pickett started and went the first four innings. He allowed on earned run and one strikeout.

Kyle Tinna came on in relief and scored the loss, allowing two runs.

Canton will travel to NEB Wednesday.

Northeast Bradford 6, Troy 3, 8 innings

EAST TROY - Northeast Bradford rallied in the seventh and ended up beating Troy in eight innings during NTL baseball action Monday.

Troy took a 2-0 lead after the first inning but NEB tied it up in the second. In the bottom of the second Troy scored again to go up 3-2.

It stayed that way until the top of the seventh when Aaron Pifer drove in Bryan Ford on a 2-out hit to send the game into extra innings.

Then in the top of the eighth with two outs Northeast got back to back hits, followed by back to back walks to go up 4-3. A bases loaded base hit drove in two more runs to give them the win.

Bryan Ford led the way, with two hits, two runs and an RBI while Garret Smith, Tyler Emick, Pifer, Hunter Condusta and Cody Clark also had hits.

Condusta scored twice while David Ford and Clark also scored. Emick knocked in two runs while Smith, Pifer, Clark and Bryan Ford had RBI.

Nik Geiser went the distance for the win, striking out five while allowing six hits and three runs.

For Troy Isaac Havens had two hits while Brandon Mattocks had a triple with an RBI and run scored. Jarrod Mattocks and Collin Binford had a hit and run each.

Kyle Jackson started and went 1 1/3-innings to allow two runs. Havens came on in relief and went 3 2/3-innings to strike out four with no runs. Mitchell Morse followed with an inning's worth of work with Ethan Calkins pitching the seventh. He allowed two hits and one run.

Jarrod Mattocks threw the eighth and earned the loss, allowing three hits and three runs with one strikeout.

Mansfield 12, Cowanesque Valley 10

An eight run second inning propelled the Tigers to an NTL baseball win Monday.

CV led 3-1 after the first inning before Mansfield took a 9-3 lead. The Tigers extended the lead to 12-5 after the third before the Indians scored four in the fourth to cut it to 12-9. They added another run in the seventh.

Jarrod Burd (2-for-4), Rylan Whitmeyer (2-for-4) and Levi Adams (2-for-4) all had multiple hits in the game for Mansfield, with one of Adams' hits a double. Burd and Whitmeyer each scored twice while Adams scored once.

Burd and Whitmeyer each knocked in a run.

Levi Adams started and earned the win, going 2 1/3-innings with five runs. Brady Andrews threw the next 1 2/3-innings with four runs while Burd pitched the final three with one run.

They combined for three strikeouts.

Tyler Melko went 3-for-4 with 3-RBI and two runs to lead the Indians while Ryan Freeman was 2-for-5 with two runs.

Brandon McClean and Brandon Whitesell both went 1-for-2. McClean scored three times with an RBI while Whitesell scored twice.

Whitesell went the distance and earned the loss, striking out two.

The Tigers travel to Athens Wednesday.

Towanda 10, Sayre 0, 5 innings

Towanda's pitchers combined for a 1-hitter in their NTL baseball win over the Redskins Monday.

"Our pitching has been one of the strong points all year for us," Towanda coach Bill Sexton said. "It's what we have to keep doing, maybe sometime put all the bats together. It was an errorless game, which is a plus. We rapped out 10 hits today, maybe it's starting to come together but it's a struggle."

The Black Knights broke open a close game with a 5-run third inning. Noah Huff walked to start the inning and reached third on a steal and pass ball. Jared Lines then walked and reached second on a steal. A pass ball scored Huff followed by a Nick Place single bringing in Lines.

A Dylan Bates single would score Sawyer Strope while a ground out by Tristan James followed by a fielder's choice off the bat of Richard Benjamin scored Place. A single by Landon Brown scored Bates.

The Knights then got three in the fourth followed by a run in the fifth to get the win.

Place (2-for-3) and Bates (2-for-3) had multiple hits in the game for the Knights. Place scored twice with 3-RBI while Bates scored twice with a double and an RBI.

Huff, Lines, Strope, James, Ethan Barto and Brown all had hits with Lines' a double. Lines scored three times, Huff scored twice with Strope also crossing home.

Strope, James, Benjamin, Barto and Brown all had runs batted in.

Lines recorded two steals with Huff and Strope also stealing a bag.

On the mound Strope started and went three innings to strikeout five while allowing one hit. He moves to 3-0 with the win.

Ty Johnson pitched the fourth with one strikeout and one walk while Bates threw the fifth.

Nick Hall had the lone Sayre hit while Marshall Felt started and earned the loss. He allowed five walks, six hits and six earned runs.

Hall threw the final two innings, striking out two while allowing one walk and three earned runs.

The Black Knights hope this is a sign of things to come.

"We got to hit with Strope, Place and Bates and have those guys on base," remarked Sexton. "At the beginning of the year the only hitting was Strope and hopefully he keeps that up. The last few games Place and Bates have been hitting. We will see if we are getting it together or not. We are back to .500 again. We seem to be a loss and a win and a win and a loss and at .500 after 12 games now and only eight left."

Towanda is at Wyalusing Wednesday.

Tioga 9, SVE 1

The Tigers defeated SVE for the second time in three days in IAC baseball action Monday.

Carter Jackson and Tanner Folk both went 2-for-4 to lead Tioga. Folk added 4-RBI while Jackson had one.

Jake Howland and Parker Hendershot each had a double. Howland added a run scored and 2-RBI while Hendershot crossed home.

Adam Layman, Travis Moyer and Jesse Manuel each had a hit.

Ryan Vergason and Manuel each scored twice while Dakota Skinner, Layman and Moyer also crossed home.

On the mound Peter Simmons started and earned the win, going the distance with five hits, one walk and one earned while throwing seven strikeouts. He had a shutout into the seventh which he lost with two outs.

The Tigers travel to Edison today.

Wellsboro 16, Williamson 2, 5 innings

Dylan Prough went 3-for-5 with three runs to lead the Hornets to an NTL baseball win Monday.

Dawson Prough went 2-for-3 with two doubles, Cody DeHaas was 2-for-4 with a double while Sam Moss (2-for-2) and Brandon Owlett (2-for-4) also had multiple hits in the game. Owlett also scored three runs.

Dylan Prough started and earned the win, going two innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Dawson Prough went the next two innings with two strikeouts while James Mundy pitched one inning with one strikeout.

Anthony Bastian went 2-for-3 to lead Williamson. Dalton Confer started and earned the loss, striking out one with two walks. Billy Barnes threw the next three innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Hornets host Troy Wednesday.

Waverly 20, Watkins Glen 1

Brendyn Stillman went 3-for-6 with a home run, 5-RBI and three runs to lead the Wolverines to an IAC baseball win Monday.

Dylan Perry was 3-for-4 with a double while Alex Uhl went 3-for-4 with 2-RBI and four runs scored.

Peyton Miller was 2-for-4 with three runs and 3-RBI with Zach Saxon 2-for-4 with two runs.

Garrett Mann and Tim Sutton both had doubles while Alex Volpe, Mike Girolamo, Kyle Kinsley, Colton Miller, Nate Bennett and Colin Traub also had hits.

Bennett scored three times, Mann scored twice while Volpe, Kinsley and Traub also crossed home. Bennett added 2-RBI with Mann, Girolamo, Sutton, Colton Miller and Traub also knocking runs in.

Perry started and went six innings to get the win, striking out 10 while allowing three hits, one walk and one earned run.

Mann went the seventh with three strikeouts.
