Wyalusing baseball blanks Towanda; Troy edges Canton.

2014 Wyalusing vs. Towanda BaseballWYALUSING - Kyle Tinna threw a complete-game shutout for Wyalusing, and he scored the winning run in a 1-0 victory over Towanda.

Tinna singled to lead off the seventh and was bunted to second. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Tinna stole third and scored on a Devon Carr single.

On the mound Tinna struck out four and allowed three hits and no walks in the win.

Tristan James had a dominant game on the mound for Towanda in the loss, allowing three hits and two walks, and the one earned run, while striking out 13. James is 0-2 on the year, allowing just three runs in his 17 innings of work.

"It's a frustrating loss, we didn't beat ourselves, we just didn't do enough to win the game," Towanda coach Bill Sexton said. "Wyalusing got the inning they put two base hits together. They did the things they needed to do. They put two hits in the same inning and we didn't do that. We had the same number of hits, we just couldn't do them in the same inning. We had opportunities with people on base, we just couldn't get them in."

Tinna had two hits and scored the run for Wyalusing and Carr had the hit and RBI. Sawyer Strope had two hits, with a double for Towanda and Dylan Bates added a hit.

Towanda is at Dunn Field to take on Notre Dame at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Dunn Field Tournament.

Troy 5, Canton 4

After Canton came back to tie things with Troy at four all, the Trojans got a run in the bottom of the sixth when Collin Binford had a bunt single and came home to score on a Dane Smith single.

Canton had tied the game in the fifth when Chase Pepper singled and Trevor Route followed with a double.

Kyle Jackson struck out one in three innings for Troy and Kyle Schucker struck out one in three innings to get the win. Ethan Calkins got the save with a perfect inning, striking out one for Troy.

Binford had a hit and scored two runs for Troy and Schucker had a hit and two RBI.

Chance Lantz had a hit and an RBI, Smith had a hit and an RBI and Isaac Havens had a hit and scored a run. Smith and Brandon Mattocks each scored runs.

John Bowman struck out five in three innings for Canton and Mason Martell struck out one in an inning, while Pepper took the loss, striking out five in two innings.

Pepper had two hits and scored two runs for Canton and Route had a double and an RBI, with a run scored. Garrett Wesneski had an RBI, Connor Route had a hit and an RBI, Travis Butcher had a hit and Bowman scored a run.

Troy is at Shamokin on Saturday and then they meet Canton again at Canton on Monday.

Sayre 7, Williamson 6

Sayre scored four in the first and three in the third to get the win.

Matt Williams stole a base and scored a run and Cuyler Kochin had two hits and scored a run.

Marshall Felt scored two runs and Nick Hall scored a run.

John Esposito had two hits, with a double and he scored two runs and Derrick Keir had a hit and scored a run, while Jake Goodrich had a hit.

Matt Learn had a double and scored three runs for Williamson and Kyle Colegrove had a hit, two steals and scored two runs. Anthony Bastian had a double and Billy Barnes and Daltyn Confer had hits, while Troy Adriance scored a run.

Marshall Felt and Michael Rogers pitched for Sayre, striking out three.

Waverly 3, Susquehanna Valley 1

Waverly got a hit and two RBI from Brandyn Stillman and Peyton Miller had two hits in the win.

Dylan Perry had an RBI and he scored a run and Mike Girolamo and Alex Uhl each had a hit and scored a run.

Collin Traub got the win, going the distance and allowing eight hits and one run, with three walks.

Notre Dame 32, Candor 3

The Crusaders pounded out 24 hits as they stayed unbeaten on the season in IAC baseball action Thursday.

At the plate Sam Bruner got on base all eight times he was at the plate, going 3-for-3 with six runs scored, four walks and a hit by pitch.

Parker May was 4-for-6 with a double, triple, 6-RBI and five runs scored, Hunter Thomas was 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored, Brian Hale was 3-for-4 with 2-RBI and a run scored, Derek Marshall was 3-for-6 with 2-RBI and two runs scored and Matt LaBadie was 3-for-7 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Also for the Crusaders Cameron Reid was 2-for-6 with four runs and an RBI, Joe Prunier was 2-for-4 with four runs, two doubles and an RBI, Chris Karam went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Colin Mustico had a run scored and an RBI while Kyle Minchin knocked in a run.

Jordan Bartolis was the losing pitcher for Candor.

Notre Dame returns to action Saturday as they face Towanda at 2 p.m. at Dunn Field in the Elmira baseball tournament.
