Towanda's Bates to play baseball at PSU AltoonaEver since Dylan Bates started his baseball career at Towanda he had a goal in mind, to one day play college baseball.

Now Bates will get the chance as he signed to play at Penn State Altoona next year.

"It's pretty cool," Bates said. "It feels good. I have really wanted this since day one."

For Bates hearing about the Penn State Altoona program from another former Towanda standout helped him decide on the school.

"One of our grads, Nate Bennett, went there and he said a good deal about it," Bates said.

After playing a lot of positions in high school Bates will be looked at as a middle infielder in college.

"It will be good to have one position and stick there," Bates said.

For Bates there are some things to keep working on before college.

"More of the hitting and doing more weight work," Bates said.

While Bates hasn't decided on a major yet he is thinking about environmental studies and he knows that he is going to the right place for academics.

"It's a plus getting a Penn State degree," Bates said.

While college is going to be a big step up Bates thinks he is ready.

"It's going to be pretty good," he said. "I played with some good players in travel. I know I can stay with them."

Getting a chance to play in college has been the goal for a long time.

"It's what I want to do and now it's finally happening," Bates said.

The biggest change will be taking off the Towanda jersey and putting on a new school's uniform.

"I will be wearing the blue and white instead of black and orange," Bates said.
