Two doubles in the first inning proved to be all the offense Camp Hill's Michael Hope would need as Troy's season came to an end with a 2-0 loss in the PIAA, Class AA baseball playoffs.

Camp Hill got a first inning run, and added a run in the fifth, and Hope made it stand up, striking out 14 and allowing one hit, while walking eight, in the game.

"We had our chances," Troy coach Steve Mattocks said. "The big one was the bottom of the second inning we had one out and (Kyle) Schucker got the base hit and he (Hope) walked the bases loaded, but then he struck out the next two kids. We could never get the hit or make contact or even get a ground ball you could do something with until the end. The fourth inning we had runners on second and third, but two outs at the time and we had a fielder's choice to shortstop. The last inning we had a two-out walk and a close play at first that could have gone either way, but we could never get the bats going.

"When he missed, he missed out of the zone, it wasn't anything we could make good contact on. He was a real good pitcher, he pitched a heck of a game. But, our kids fought well, our pitchers threw good. We were right there with him. Those two doubles in the first inning they really were the difference. That's all he needed."

Driving down to Northern York then getting rained out Monday and making the trip again Wednesday was tough for Troy. But Mattocks knows tough pitching is hard to beat and it is tough in the postseason when teams all have talented pitchers.

"You get down there and you sit there for an hour, turn around and drive back for another three hours, that's hard," Mattocks said. "But, we just ran up against a really good pitcher. That's the thing, you see a Loyalsock and you see this pitcher in Camp Hill. You look around the NTL we have 1-2 pitchers like that. We have good pitchers up here but you might not see them every game, where down here that's what you are seeing. Schucker had Troy's hit and he also pitched four innings, striking out three, walking one and allowing four hits and one run.

Isaac Havens pitched an inning, allowing a hit, a walk and a run and Jarod Mattocks pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

Michael Shuasker had a double and a run for Camp Hill and Kyle Remig had a double and an RBI, both coming in that first inning. Andrew Fredenberg had a single and in the fifth Corey Becker singled for Camp Hill and scored on a wild pitch. Mark Leach also had a hit for Camp Hill.

Despite the loss Mattocks is happy with what the Trojans accomplished this year.

"From where we were three years ago this senior class has made it to districts three out of four years and made it to states their senior year," Mattocks said. "They had an overall record of 44-42. They played 86 games in their high school career for these seniors. They set the bar and they really did a good job and now we have a strong junior class and kids coming through. You can't take anything away from them."
