Athens' Tyler Forbes had a strong effort on the mound against Hughesville.

He allowed just three hits, two walks and one unearned run while striking out four.

But Hughesville starter Justin Lambert was just as strong, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 11 in the Spartans 1-0 win over Athens in District IV, Class AA baseball action Tuesday.

In the bottom of the first Hughesville scored as their leadoff batter Tyler Mitcheltree reached on an error. Three batters later Lambert hit him in with a 2-out single.

From there both pitchers took over.

Athens was able to get runners on in the first and second and threatened in the sixth as Troy Stivason reached on an error and made it all the way to third but Hughesville kept the clean sheet.

On the otherside Hughesville never threatened again after that first inning.

Zane Vargason had a double while Mike Estes added a single for the Wildcats. Curt Moore drew two walks in the game as well.

Lambert went 2-for-3 to lead Hughesville.
