Big first inning gives Canton 4-2 win over Benton.

Canton came out firing at the plate in their 4-2 win over Benton in District IV, Class A baseball action Thursday.

They scored three runs in the bottom of the first, then added one more in the bottom of the fourth.

Benton would get their two runs in the top of the fifth.

In the first Travis Butcher led off with a double and was sacrificed over to third by Mason Moore. Trevor Route knocked Butcher in with a single, then stole second where John Bowman hit him in.

Bowman stole second then scored on a wild pitch.

Bowman went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored while also getting the save. He went the final 2 2/3-innings with two strikeouts.

Clayton Tymeson got the win, striking out four.

Butcher was 1-for-1 with the double and run scored while Route, Tyler Cole, Bryce Cole and Mason Martel also had hits.

Silas Binford also scored while Tymeson had an RBI.

The Warriors will take on top seed Montgomery on Saturday at Bowman Field with a 1:30 p.m. start.
