Horton pitches Panthers past Black Knights.

2015 Northeast Bradford vs. Towanda BaseballWYSOX - Behind a strong pitching performance by Brian Horton the Northeast Bradford Panthers picked up their first win over Towanda since 2009 on Thursday, beating the Black Knights 10-0 in five innings.

"This is huge," Horton said. Absolutely huge, we needed it."

The Panthers, with 18 underclassmen on the team, got off to a fast start scoring two runs in the first and they blew the game open with seven in the fifth.

"I'm really excited," Horton said. "The game last year they really swamped us, it's good to get back a little."

Horton threw a four-hitter for the Panthers, striking out two and walking none, throwing 73 pitches for the five-inning complete game.

"I felt really good," Horton said. "The strikes were coming."

The Panthers started to show signs of what they could do last year and now they are hoping to take a bigger step.

"We are going to double our wins, that's what we want," Horton said.

And, they know that Thursday's win was a big first step.

"This is what we needed, it's so big, it's exactly what we needed to do," Horton said.

For the Panthers the hard work they have been putting in paid off with a big early-season win.

"We put in a lot of work inside, in the gym, we put a lot of work in," Horton said.

David Ford had two hits and scored two runs for the Panthers, with a pair of RBI and Aaron Pifer had a hit, two runs scored and he drove in two runs.

Nik Geiser had a double and Derrick Newman had a hit and a run, while Garret Smith had a hit.

Horton, Tyler Emick and Nate Watkins all scored runs for Northeast Bradford in the game.

Nick Place pitched four innings for Towanda, striking out nine, walking one and allowing three hits and three runs, two earned, while hitting one batter.

Ethan Barto pitched the final inning for Towanda.

Keegan Kisner, Place, Tyler Bidlack and Shane Martin had hits for Towanda in the game.

NEB is at CV today and Towanda hosts Athens.

Waverly 14, Candor 2

WAVERLY, N.Y. - The Wolverines scored seven runs in the first inning on their way to the win on Thursday.

Peyton Miller had two hits, with a double, and scored a run, while Collin Traub had a hit and scored a run in the game.

Brendyn Stillman had a double and scored two runs and Kyle Kinsley had two hits, four runs scored and two RBI.

Zac Saxon had a pair of hits, with a double, two RBI and two runs scored and Mason Salsman had a double, two RBI and a run scored.

DJ Myers scored a run and Mike Girolamo had an RBI and scored a run.

Nate Bennett had a hit and scored a run and Zach Gingrick had a hit and an RBI.

Saxon struck out two in two one-hit innings and Salsman struck out two in a perfect inning. Myers struck out three in two two-hit innings and Gavin Bennett struck out two in two one-hit innings.

Troy 15, Sayre 5

It was a 3-2 game into the fourth when the Trojans scored eight runs to blow the game open.

The Trojans got a pair of doubles, with two runs scored and five RBI from Kyle Schucker in the win.

Isaac Havens had a double and scored three runs and Brock Schucker had a hit and four RBI.

Jarrod Mattocks had two hits and scored two runs and Brandon Mattocks had a hit, two RBI and a run scored.

Chance Lantz and Collin Binford each had RBI and scored runs and Kyle Jackson had a hit and scored a run, while Mitchell Morse and Dane Smith had hits.

Jackson pitched three innings for Troy, striking out one and allowing three hits. Lantz and Havens each pitched an inning, Lantz striking out one and Havens with two strikeouts.

Sayre got two hits from Jake Wheeler, with two runs scored and Jordan Rockwell had a hit and scored two runs.

Nate Sweet and J.P. Harbst each had a hit, Harbst driving in two and Sweet with one RBI. Chris Ray scored a run for Sayre.

Marshall Felt started on the mound for Sayre in the game.

Troy hosts Wellsboro today.
