Sayre baseball edges NEBLERAYSVILLE — Sayre baseball scored three runs in the top of the seventh on their way to a 5-3 win over NEB to tie the Panthers atop the NTL, Division II standings.

Jordan Rockwell got the win for Sayre, striking out 10.

"It feels great, it was a team effort tonight, my defense stepped up in big positions, I couldn't be prouder of us," Rockwell said.

Sayre trailed 1-0 in the fifth, but scored runs in the fifth and sixth to go up 2-0, before they got three in the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh the Panthers got within 5-3 and had the bases loaded when Nik Geiser hit a blooper to center field and Chris Ray made a diving catch for the final out to preserve the win.

"Chris Ray, I have all the confidence in the world in him," Rockwell said. "he comes up big in every game and I wouldn't want anyone else out there."

Both teams were shut down in the middle innings of the game as Rockwell held the Panthers to the three runs and Brian Horton had a four-hitter for NEB with four strikeouts.

"I just needed to find my groove, rely on my defense more," Rockwell said. "I was trying to put myself on the spot too much, I relied on my defense more and they came up big."

In the seventh Rockwell knew he had to close out the win.

"I was getting up there in pitch count, I knew it was my game to end it and I had to do what I had to do to get out of it," Rockwell said.

For the Redskins the win was a big one in the NTL standings.

"This was a big stepping stone," Rockwell said. "You've got to keep going, you've got to do what you've got to do to get the wins."

Sam Wheeler scored a run and had an RBI for Sayre and Nate Sweet had a hit and an RBI.

Matt Williams had a double and scored a run and Connor Hanafin had a hit.

John Esposito had an RBI and Chris Ray had a hit and scored two runs, while Luke Cowder had an RBI and a run scored.

Garret Smith had a hit and scored a run for NEB and Nate Watkins had two hits and an RBI.

Tyler Emick had a hit and an RBI and Brian Horton had two hits and an RBI.

Nik Geiser had a hit and Derrick Newman, Roland Phytila and Grant Allis all had hits. Allis and Phytila scored runs in the game.

Athens 10, Wyalusing 3

WYALUSING — On the day his grandfather had the field named after him, Brendon Hitchcock's Athens Wildcats picked up the win over his dad's Wyalusing Rams.

Ryan Kennedy had a double, an RBI and three runs scored and Matt Collins had three hits, with an RBI and two runs scored.

Luke Newman had a hit, an RBI and a run scored and Nate Kennedy had a double and an RBI.

Marc Felt had a hit and an RBI and Cody Jennings had a double and scored a run for Athens.

Joe Horn had an RBI and Cory Stivason had a hit, an RBI and a run scored, while Justin Reagan scored two runs.

Felt pitched three innings, Collins two innings and Reagan and Horn an inning each, combining for 11 strikeouts for Athens.

Holdan Hitchcock had two hits, with a double, and an RBI for Wyalusing and Ridge Williams had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Riley God had a hit and scored a run and Chandler Brown had a hit and an RBI.

Brandon Brown scored a run and Eli Bennett had a hit for the Rams.

Chandler Brown, Jon Morrison and Mike Wilcox pitched for the Rams, striking out three between them.

Troy 12, Mansfield 2, 5 innings

Troy scored five runs in the second and four in the third to get the win.

Collin Binford had two hits, with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored.

Clark Jackson scored a run for Troy and Kyle Schucker had two hits and four RBI.

Nathan Swain had a hit and an RBI and Dane Smith scored a run.

Nate Martin had a hit and scored two runs and Michael Borden had a hit and scored a run.

Kody Schucker had a hit and Ben Sherman had a triple and a run scored. Hunter Cohick had a double and four RBI for Troy and Jah Wallace scored a run.

Swain got the win, striking out two in two two-hit innings and Schucker had two strikeouts in three two-hit innings.

Brendan Hill had a hit and scored two runs for Mansfield and J.P. Shaw had a hit and an RBI.

Kipp Hillson and Dewey Wise had hits for the Tigers.

Shaw struck out one in two innings and Carl Dinger and Kipp Hillson pitched in relief.

Wellsboro 11, Towanda 1, 5 innings

Towanda led 1-0 in the third, when Wellsboro scored two in the third, six in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Dalton Prough had a hit and scored two runs and Dawson Prough had a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Nick Tremper had a hit, two runs and two RBI and James Mundy had a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Joe Allen had two hits, a run scored and three RBI and Larry Walters had a hit and two RBI.

Cam Tennis had two hits for Wellsboro and Johnny Rowland had a hit and scored three runs.

Allen and Rowland combined on a two-hitter, striking out five.

Shane Martin had a hit and scored a run for Towanda and Lars Thomason had a hit, while Tyler Bidlack had an RBI.

Brayden Manchester pitched 3 2/3 innings, striking out three and Thomason pitched 1 1/3 innings.

Towanda hosts Mansfield on Monday.

Williamson 9, CV 5

The Warriors came out strong with six runs in the first inning in the win.

Jon Daley had two hits, two RBI and a run scored and Jake Rice scored a run and Colin Heilbrun scored a run.

Matt Learn had a double, two RBI and a run scored and Chase Austin had a hit and scored a run and Ethan Schaffer scored a run.

Wyatt Gorg had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored and Jared Stermer scored two runs.

Brandon Enck had two hits and two RBI and Hunter Sackett had a hit and an RBI.

Austin struck out nine on the mound in a six-hitter.

Colton Vinluan had two hits, with a double, and a run scored for CV and Kurtis Easton had a hit, three RBI and a run scored.

Tyler Melko had a hit and Wynn Doan scored a run.

Caleb Fitzwater had a hit and an RBI and Christian Kemp had an RBI.

Connor Calaman scored a run and Matt Freeman had a hit and scored a run for CV. Nevin Stiles struck out seven in three innings and Fitzwater had two strikeouts in four innings.

Waverly 19, Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen 3

The Wolverines got two home runs, and a double, with four RBI and four runs scored from Brendyn Stillman in the win.

Peyton Miller had three hits, with two triples, three RBI and two runs scored and Mason Salsman had two hits, with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Nate Bennett had a hit, two RBI and two runs scored and D.J. Meyers had a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Shawn Salsbury had a hit.

Ethan McNaulty scored a run and Tyler Dudash had a hit.

Zach VanHouten had three hits, with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.

Jason Morales had two hits, with a double, two RBI and two runs scored and Isiah King scored a run, while Dylan Cooney had a hit and scored a run.

McNaulty worked six four-hit innings, striking out five and Devin Garrison struck out two in one inning.

Tioga 30, SVE 6

Every player in the Tigers lineup had a hit as Tioga scored 30 for the second time.

Parker Hendershot had three hits, with a triple, Pierce Hendershot had three hits, with a double, and Tanner Folk had three hits, with a double and a triple in the win.

Parker Hendershot had two RBI and four runs scored and Pierce Hendershot had five runs scored and three RBI, while Folk had three runs and five RBI.

Damon Rockwell had two strikeouts in four innings to get the win and Tyler Whitmore struck out four in three innings.

Tioga is at Newfield on Friday.

CMVT 12, Sullivan County 1

The Griffins got two hits from John Saxe and Taylor Baldwin had a double in the loss.

Brian Lewis scored a run and Lucas Shultz, Jarrod Houck, Will Kiner and Nate Higley had hits.
