Canton baseball opened their season with a win Friday afternoon, traveling to Benton to claim a 5-1 victory. After surrendering a run in the first inning, the Warriors never looked back, scoring a run in the second, third and sixth innings, and then two additional runs in the seventh.

Byron Marnati spent the entire game on the mound for Canton, striking out seven on 78 pitches. Marnati also collected two hits while at the plate.

Taylor Acla went 4-4, and Nick May had two hits, one of which was an RBI single for the Warriors. Tyler Williams grabbed himself an RBI single as well.

Canton's baserunners were able to capitalize on two wild pitches, scoring a run on both instances.

Warriors' coach Bob Rockwell commented on the game as being, "well played by both teams, not many errors" — a good sign for both teams this early in the season.

Canton's next game will be on Tuesday at Athens.
