Hornet baseball falls to Danville, 6-5.

The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team dropped their third consecutive game as they lost 6-5 to Danville on Monday, May 11.

Danville jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Hornets would make it 3-2 as Freshman Dalton Prough and Junior Dawson Prough each scored runs on an RBI single from Senior Brett Kendrick. Wellsboro tied the game in the bottom half of the second inning as Freshman Johnny Rowland touched home plate.

The Hornets would take a 5-3 lead after the third inning as Dawson Prough and Kendrick each scored, but Danville scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to win the game.

Dawson Prough was 2-for-4 on the night and scored two runs, Senior Nick Levindoski was 2-for-4, Kendrick was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and scored a run. Dalton Prough went 1-for-4 and scored a run, Junior Sam Moss was 1-for-2, and Rowland also scored a run.

Moss started on the mound for Wellsboro and pitched five innings allowing all six runs on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout. Junior James Mundy pitched the final two innings in relief and allowed two hits.

"We had some mental mistakes early in the game and gave them some runs we shouldn't have," said head coach Philip Prough. "For us we hit a lot of balls right at the Danville defenders. There were two or three instances where we had runners on and hit hard-hit balls right at them, and at the end of the day they just made more plays than us but it was a good game and a good effort by both teams."

Prior to the game, the Hornets held their annual Senior Night festivities as they honored Levindoski and Kendrick. Coach Prough said after the game how much they have meant to the team this year.

"Both Nick and Brett have meant a lot. Brett has a great way of bringing a fun atmosphere to the team. For Nick, He's probably been one of my best captains I've ever had. He holds people responsible, holds the team accountable for their actions, and he's been a great mentor for the younger players. Overall its meant quite a bit to me and I'll miss both of them."

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 11-7. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, May 13 as they host Williamson.
