Mounties Open Flood Gates In 15-3 Win Over Wellsboro.
 

Wellsboro kept the game close early on but ultimately fell 15-3 to South Williamsport in non-league baseball action on Wednesday, May 1.

The Mounties scored two runs in the top of the 1st to take the early lead, but the Hornets answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Caden Smith led off the inning with a base hit then advanced to second when sophomore Marek Mascho reached on error. Junior Gabe Sprouse connected on a base hit to score Smith, cutting the Mounties lead in half. Later, with one out, junior Alec Magli ripped a double to score both Mascho and Sprouse, putting Wellsboro in front, 3-2.

Wellsboro's lead didn't last long, however, as South Williamsport added 7 runs in the 2nd, 4 more in the 3rd, and then 2 in the 4th to close out the game in 5 innings.

Smith finished the day 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Hornets at the plate while Sprouse, freshman Coen Tennis, Magli, added the remaining hits.

Freshman Max Mascho started and threw 2 innings, allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 6 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Sprouse threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks. Magli threw 1 & 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with a strikeout. Junior Dustin Owlett threw the final inning, surrendering one hit and one walk.

The loss drops the Hornets to 4-8 (3-6 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at home on Friday as they take on Wyalusing in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
